Lincoln was born in 1970 to two naughty teenagers in the small midwestern college town of Carbondale, Illinois. Baptized in tear gas during a student anti-war protest, he soon found himself splitting time between his mom’s place in Chicago and moving around the country with his dad (big shock, the marriage didn’t work out). After a groovy 70s childhood, Lincoln ended up living in the St. Louis suburbs with his dad, stepmom, and stepsister where he enjoyed a totally 80s adolescence.

Eager to avoid the working world, Lincoln spent the slacker 90s pursuing various degrees, earning a B.A. and M.A. in History and then spending two years on a Ph.D before wising up and getting a Law degree instead. He and his wife have spent the last few decades working and raising their three kids in the north suburbs of Chicago.

In 2018, while reading obsessively about the 16th century — particularly the Protestant Reformation and early European colonialism in the New World and Asia — the kernel of an idea for a story presented itself and quickly grew into The Binding Pearls series.
